“This was the best house I've ever rented” Monica and John have provided a house in a great location and with everything that you could need for your stay. I was there to find a long term rental and a lot to build on because we are moving to Black Mountain in July. Monica provided me with the name of her realtor who turned out to be very helpful There are great restaurants in town and everyone I met was friendly and helpful. After very busy days this house and its front porch were the perfect place to come back to and relax

“Cozy, Charming, Quaint” The Cozy upper room was very unique. My experience was wonderful. I really enjoyed the amazing bath and shower. It's all in the details and it felt like home in this little room. I would highly recommend the cozy upper room to anyone. I will make it a point to come back and stay again. Thanks for the hospitality.

“At least as good as advertised” When we arrived, we were met with a friendly smile, a lot of information, a good quick tour of the location, and a bottle of wine with two glasses. We wanted a pet friendly place, and I kind of expected some evidence of other pets - smell, scratches, etc. We found nothing of the kind. Which is great when one of us also has asthma and would be sensitive to a dirty place. For the holiday season, they even had a tree in the corner. The fireplace is great. The great room is huge. And the views were terrific. The bedrooms were more than enough for us. Master bedroom was huge and kids enjoyed the second floor space with two twin beds and a TV. We came to visit the asheville river arts district and to take our kids on the Great Smoky RailRoad Polar Express Tour. Both events were close enough. But we also stopped by the Biltmore and the National GingerBread House Contest at the Grove Park Inn. (Got a nice tip - pay for a morning massage at the Grove Park and get use of their spa facilities all day). I'm a runner, so the high grade gravel road to the house was not to my liking for that. Altitude, steep hill, thin road that was a bit slippery. But I also went just a bit higher than the house to the RV Campground and not only found great hilltop views, but also tons of trails that wound around the hills. These would be terrific for exploring with the kids and dogs on another trip. We will definitely look to this house first for a return trip. I should note that though the house felt very remote, anything we wanted was close by. We had a need for a pharmacy and groceries right away and they were quick to get to. We even found a decent Thai restaurant in a strip mall close by. Other restaurants looked good. But the proximity to downtown and the River arts area was surprising. Had to be only three highway exits away and no traffic.

“A Relaxing Mountain Escape for the Whole Family” My family (two sets of parents, myself, my husband and aunt) all stayed here in October for a fall getaway. The home itself was very nice. We loved the high ceilings, the large family room and the long dining room table. There were even some games and puzzles that we enjoyed. The living room had a nice wood burning fire place that kept us warm in the evenings. The was a small TV upstairs, but we couldn't get it to work, so we had to retire to the family room downstairs if there was a desire to watch TV. The quality of the TV in the family room downstairs was wonderful! It was a nice large, HD flatscreen, which was perfect for watching Sunday football. There is another fire place downstairs. We also enjoyed the large outside deck and a dip in the hot tub with a glass of wine, which was a relaxing treat. The house is close a grocery store, which was very conveinent and downtown asheville is only about a 10 minute drive. The place was clean and well appointed.

“Loved this place” I rented this place for family coming into town. We all absolutely loved it! The house is very nice and new. The yard was big enough for the kids to run around and they really enjoyed playing on the zip line. There was plenty of room for our party of five. The kitchen had plenty of cookware and dishes. Everything about the place was great! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

“Awesome place with lots of nice touches!” Jane's guesthouse was perfect for my stay in Asheville! The property is tucked into an eclectic Asheville neighborhood close to several great restaurants, and outfitted with lots of quality touches that made it more than comfortable for me. The bed was wonderful, the walls were decked with original art, and the utensils and equipment in the kitchenette was top quality. I will definitely be staying at Jane's guesthouse again. Wonderful!!

“Perfect place for a get-away” Every 5 star review is correct. This place is perfect in every way. To give you a sense of how large this place is-it is above an oversize 3 car garage so there is plenty of space. Milan greeted us when we arrived and gave us a carton of half and half for our coffee. Coffee is in the refrigerator. Everything you need is in the apartment. Linens and towels are upscale. Milan and John were so friendly we felt like we had been lifelong friends. We would definitely recommend this to anyone going to Asheville and will definitely consider for another trip to Asheville.

“More than we expected, we will be back!” This is the perfect place to get away! We came in at night and I was nervous because I know how picky my boyfriend is about staying away from home. It was very clean the pictures don't do it justice. The hot tub was great. The inside was spacious. Chimney Rock was just down the road. We did a day of shopping and climbed all the way to the top of Chimney Rock and all the trails and came back and spent some much needed time in the hot tub and massage chair. The owners were right upstairs and we talked with them they were so nice however we couldn't tell there was anyone upstairs unless we went to them. I can't wait to go back!!! I need the sound of the river to put me to sleep again!

“Nice and Cozy” We had a great time during Spring Break 2014. We wanted to do something a little different with grandkids this year, and this Cottage was perfect. (We normally go to Gatlinburg) Cottage sits right on the river with the deck actually out over the river. Hot tub was well taken care of and located where we had a nice view of the river. We didn't realize we had scheduled opening day of trout fishing season, but we took advantage, and my son caught several nice fish right on the property. I enjoyed the fact that the cottage is a part of history, (Former Bat Cave Post Office), yet everything was updated with new fixtures and electronics. The beds slept great, and the grand kids loved the game room. Chimney Rock State Park and little downtown area are just a few minutes from the cottage on the same road. We were a little concerned about available dining close by, but were pleasantly surprised with the variety of options. Also used the available stainless Weber grill on the deck. I am certain we will return later in the summer. The owners were very nice, and made us feel like we were appreciated. Overall a very nice and relaxing vacation. (The massage chair was a bonus when I could get the kids out of it)

Elegant Downtown Home, 4 Min to Biltmore Estate

Asheville house

“Warm, charming home and hostess!” Our sons live in asheville, and we had wanted to stay there for Christmas for a couple of years. The one non-negotiable amenity was a fireplace---Green Gables has 3! The home is lovely, and our hostess Georgia even more so. When she discovered a few hours before our arrival that we would be celebrating Christmas the next day, she redecorated the house with wreaths and a small lighted tree, set out wine and cookies, and addressed every member of our party by name in a welcome note. We were very impressed with the level of attention she gives her guests, personally taking care of all the details from booking to follow-up emails. The house is cozy and comfortable, with an old-fashioned soaking tub, gas range, large-screen TV, electronics, internet access, laundry facilities, wonderful beds...just like home, only better! We had fun cooking in the well-equipped kitchen with goodies we bought at the local food co-op. The house is close to downtown, and in better weather we could easily walk to many places we like to go in asheville. We visited the Biltmore Estate, the Southern Craft Guild shop, rode on the Blueridge Parkway, and of course had chocolate extravagance at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge. Doc Chey's restaurant on Biltmore Street provided perfect chicken soup for our son who was under the weather. (It was so good, we revisited the next day for lunch.) Georgia provides a large book with information on all these, which helped us plan our days. We have stayed for shorter periods of time in asheville over the past few years, always in hotels. Our week at Green Gables has cured us of that, and we will stay in our new "home in the mountains" whenever we can in the future!

About Black Mountain

Come to Black Mountain, North Carolina for a classic vacation in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Often called North Carolina's Front Porch, Black Mountain and the neighboring towns of Montreat and Swannanoa welcome visitors with friendly Appalachian hospitality, breathtaking vistas, mirror lakes and crystal clear mountain waterfalls.

If you're like many of the visitors who come here every year, you'll want to put on your hiking shoes and head into the wilderness. Explore the vast green mountain landscape that extends for miles in every direction around Montreat and Ridgecrest. Hike, bike, or go horseback riding to stunning overlooks and mountain peaks shrouded in rolling mist. Witness some of the most dramatic views along the Appalachian range and spot elusive wildlife species like black bear, red foxes and otters.

Black Mountain is also the home of Chimney Rock Park, a vital stop on the iconic American road trip. Go rock climbing near Grandfather Mountain, take a rafting trip down the Nantahala River, or just spend an afternoon in total relaxation at a luxury spa or playing a round of golf on the public course. And at the end of the day, enjoy the award winning restaurants downtown.

Here are a few additional suggestions as you plan your trip:

  • Take a walk around Lake Tomahawk: Take a sunset walk around this popular lake in the town's central park.
  • Hike the trails: Try a short hike to Lookout Point or spend the whole day on a strenuous trek across the Seven Sisters mountain range.
  • Come for the Ultra Marathon: Visit Black Mountain to run or just cheer on the participants. The marathon happens every February and extends from Lake Tomahawk all the way up Mt. Mitchell.
  • Go shopping: Stroll the many upscale galleries and Appalachian style craft stores in Black Mountain and charming historic Montreat.
  • Visit the Folk Art Center and the Local Craft Guild: Local craftsmen in Black Mountain specialize in ironwork, bowl turning and pottery throwing.
  • Take a drive along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway: Stop at the beautiful Craggy Gardens, see the summit of Mt. Mitchell, the tallest peak in the eastern US, and look south along the parkway to see Cold Mountain, made famous in the book by Charles Frazier.

You'll never run out of fun activities and beautiful things to see here. Luckily, finding a vacation rental in Black Mountain is easy, no matter what time of year you visit. Book a cozy cabin, a lakeside villa, or a condo close to the center of town with access to dining, shopping and all the comforts of home.
